So my time at the NAIAS was amazing. So over whelming but completely fascinating. The introduction to the new 2013 Ford Fusion has leapfrogged Ford into the lead of mid sized cars. A category once dominated by Toyota and Honda. The 2013 Ford Fusion has three models to choose from gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid all of which have unbelievable fuel economy.

The 1.6L Ecoboost is expected to get 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. While the performance option 2.0L Ecoboost AWD with paddle shifting 6-speed automatic transmission both delivering best in class fuel consumption.

Next is the Hybrid with a 2.0L engine much smaller then the previous 2.5L but not to be outdone in the power output. The 2013 hybrid has all new lithium-ion batteries which save weight and produce more power than older models.

Ford Fusion hybrid is also the leading best in class when it comes to fuel economy getting 47 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. Fusion Hybrid is expected to beat the Toyota Camry Hybrid by 4 mpg city and 5 mpg highway and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by 12 mpg and 4 mpg.

When is comes to the most anticipated model the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid topping the fuel chart at a staggering 100 MPGe a mile per gallon equivalency. This is 8 MPGe more than Chevrolet Volt and 13 MPGe more than the Toyota Prius Plug-in.

One gallon of gas is equivalent to 33.7 kilowatt-hours of electricity. Fusion Energi Plug-in has the ability to run gas-free using the stored electricity. The Fusion will tell you how far you can go with one gallon of electrons.

Safety on the 2013 Ford Fusion is not to be overlooked it offers many great features.

The lane keeping system will alert the driver if drowsiness or erratic driving is detected. Secondly the Fusion will send vibrations through the steering wheel if you are too close to lane markings. Finally it will apply pressure to the steering wheel to bring the car back. This is all done by a small camera located behind the rear view mirror that looks at road lines to determine the vehicle stays on course.

Adaptive cruise control uses radar to slow the Fusion down when slower traffic is near.

Park assist to help with those pesky parallel parking situations when activated all the driver needs to do is control the brake and accelerator.

Blind Spot Information System will alert the driver with visual and audible warning if unseen traffic is detected.

The thing we enjoyed the most in the 2013 Ford Fusion is the MyFord Touch system that allows drivers to interact with the vehicle with little to no distractions. MyFord Touch allows you to control things like music, climate control, navigation and telephone with simple on-board voice commands. Unfortunately this is only is the American model.
